British aristocrat, Lara Croft, is highly trained in combat skills and regularly puts them to the test with the help of a robot called Simon. On the anniversary of her father's death Lara comes up against a sinister organisation who intend to steal an ancient relic in order to control time. The organisation, called the Illuminati, firstly needs to retrieve a key, which just happens to be in Lara's mansion. Can Lara get to the relic first and save the world...?

Angelina Jolie is the first and best reason to watch Lara Croft Tomb Raider. She gives an extraordinarily committed, physically demanding performance, taking on the mantle of the video game heroine with real conviction and energy, and becoming the embodiment of every fantasy female. She's tough, sexy and tomboyish all at the same time, and even has a plummy English accent to give her a touch of class. A juggernaut of computer-generated effects and characters, the the action sequences are choreographed spectacularly enough, and their impact is boosted hugely by Jolie's ability to perform almost all the stunt work herself.

On the DVD: There is plenty of additional material to keep Lara fans happy. The widescreen picture and thumping surround soundtrack are impressive too.
